This mindblowing timeline hopping twist really does merit a re-watch of the entire season, in order to see where Dolores was masquerading as Charlotte. This meant that at several points during season 2, that Dolores was going around in Charlotte’s body as “Halores” doing things that placed key players in important roles so the final outcome would be that she escaped the park before it was all said and done. The Door and Valley Beyond were finally revealed, and the good guys like Akecheta and his Ghost Nation tribe actually got to go there before it was closed off forever, as did Teddy…which I guess since Dolores had his control unit, wasn’t that much of a stretch.īut, the big reveal came when Bernard remembered he had created a host version of Charlotte Hale and then placed Dolores’ control unit in there. And, the post-credits scene was so jaw-dropping that it will be the subject of innumerable theories until the series finally returns. Each and every storyline that seemed doomed to be left twisting in the wind until season 3, was perfectly tied up into a neat little bow instead. The final episode of season 2, “The Passenger,” was absolutely perfect and was exactly what Westworld as a whole needed, heading into a long offseason wait between now and season 3. The scenes are painful here, but they’ll be magnified in “Vanishing Point.” This is the episode where Dolores decides to forcibly reprogram Teddy, making him a ruthless killer. But in an episode filled with haunting songs and gorgeous visuals, we shouldn’t overlook the more familiar scenes between Dolores and Teddy in Sweetwater. Yep, Maeve becomes a Jedi Master here, and I’m not even mad about it. We also saw Maeve’s powers grow from simple voice commands to mind control. But what really sold this episode was the score by composer Ramin Djawadi, the highlight being a Japanese-inspired version of “Paint it Black,” which plays during not-Hector’s robbery in not-Sweetwater. Learning that Lee Sizemore plagiarized himself by creating Japanese versions of Maeve, Hector, and Armistice was good fun. But somebody’s got to be in third place, so we’ll start with “Akane no Mai.” We spend this episode almost exclusively in Shogun World, a Delos theme park set in Japan’s Edo period, where warlords and ninjas rule the land. The final three episodes on this list are basically interchangeable.

To avoid such a cataclysmic outcome, policymakers in Moscow and Washington were highly sensitive to the risks of any conflict. Most importantly, the advent of nuclear weapons meant that any conflict between the superpowers risked a nuclear exchange that could have claimed tens of millions of lives and left a swath of destruction in both the Soviet and American homelands. The Cold War stayed cold for a variety of reasons. How could a war be cold? Essentially, by being fought not in the traditional manner of clashing armies, but by all other means short of actual combat. But by describing this war as “cold,” it indicates the struggle did not involve weapons and did not result in rival armies seeking to destroy each other. By using the word “war,” it captured the seemingly life-or-death struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union and between capitalism and communism. The very term “Cold War” is contradictory and confusing. My student could be forgiven for her confusion. That brought the world to the brink of what would have been a catastrophic conflict.īut through skill, prudence or luck – or all three – American and Soviet leaders managed to avoid direct combat with each other from 1945 to 1989, the basic period of the Cold War. Once, it led to the threat of nuclear war breaking out because Russia wanted to place nuclear missiles in Cuba, very close to the U.S. The Cold War relationship between the two rival nations was often tense. Washington and Moscow competed in numerous ways: over money and natural resources like oil, over allies, over weapons technology, over influence and prestige, over space exploration, over ideas. In 1991, the Soviet Union split up into 15 countries, the largest of which is Russia.īut back then, both of these two so-called superpowers wanted to be the most powerful nation in the world, building themselves up while simultaneously trying to reduce the power and influence of the other. It was, instead, an extended competition between the United States and the Soviet Union, along with their respective allies. Unlike the two world wars, there were no physical battles between the major adversaries. I told her the Cold War was not an actual war. After we discussed the various nations who fought in World Wars I and II, she asked: “Now, who fought in the Cold War?” “I am getting confused about all these wars we are studying,” one of my college students confessed to me years ago. In the Cold War, was there any actual war going on? Like, with armies? Olena Ruban/Moment/Getty Images Aries June 2022 Horoscope With all of that being said, here’s what you can expect this month, according to your sun and rising sign below: The best part? Intuitive instincts will be at an all-time high, so be sure to follow your inner wisdom. Granted, Mercury will still be buzzing through Gemini, followed by Venus the following day on June 22, but we’re still encouraged to go inward so we can tend to our home, family, and emotional foundation. Just in time to kick off this year’s summer solstice on June 21, which also marks the first day of Cancer season, the sun’s shift into this water sign will drown out some of the noise from Gemini season. Something regarding your belief systems and/or desire for experience could be coming to fruition at this time. 4, which also happened to be the last of the Sagittarius-Gemini eclipse series. For reference, think back to the last new moon (solar eclipse) of 2021 on Dec. On June 14, a sparkling super moon will adorn the night sky at exactly 23 degrees Sagittarius. We can all benefit from a little more study time, right? Surely, this retrograde cycle will require you to take a step back, but only for you to reflect, review, and re-assess everything from the foundation of your endeavors to how disciplined you are when it comes to your craft. It’s also the closest planet to the sun.) Saturn retrograde, however, is almost equivalent to your teacher being absent on the day of your midterm exam. (Mercury is considered a personal planet as it governs everything from our style of communication to our immediate environment. which for the record, is nothing like Mercury retrograde. Sounds contradictory to what we’d normally expect from a retrograde transit, but Saturn - the planet of boundaries, discipline, limitations, and structure - will begin its four-month-long retro-journey through Aquarius on June 4. Also, when considering the shift from Mercury retrograde in Gemini to Mercury retrograde in Taurus, chances are we will gain some sort of insight (Gemini) with regards to our investments (Taurus), whether it be personally or professionally speaking. Having said that, Mercury will station direct in Taurus on June 3, but it will eventually re-enter its sign of rulership, Gemini, on June 13. This means that while the retrograde disarray is technically over, there are still some minor tweaks to work through, at least while Mercury transits over the same degrees it already retrograded through. Hooray! Although, before we get ahead of ourselves, it’s important to note that Mercury will be in its post-retrograde shadow until June 18. On a more positive note, your June 2022 horoscope is not only energizing and inspiring you, but also switching up the slow-moving pace we experienced all throughout Taurus season.Īlso, in addition to the mere fact that the first day of summer is less than a month away, mischievous messenger Mercury will also be stationing direct on June 3. Eclipse season was one for the books and, well, we have yet to recover from all of the cosmic chaos. Joe Classified Series Zartan package will make a mark on shelves.
